The Conscience in Counselling and Pastoral Care
[Date: 26 July 2010]
Bishop Dr
Robert Solomon
The conscience is often a forgotten dimension in pastoral care and counselling. We can find rich teaching and insights in the Bible and in classical spiritual texts on the conscience and how it functions or malfunctions. This talk will examine the educational and therapeutic aspects of ministering to the conscience in counselling and pastoral care, based on theoretical foundations and with case studies and practical applications. †We shall see why paying attention to the conscience and its voice is important, especially in our day and age. |

The Heart of God in Counselling
[Date: 27 July 2010]
Dr
Maureen Neihart
People come to us with heart problems. They have angry hearts, hard hearts, broken hearts and heartaches. They have bitter, vengeful or rebellious hearts. Only the heart of God can heal them. What does it mean to bring the heart of God into counselling? How can we do this? In the first half of this plenary session, Dr Neihart will be sharing through storytelling, how the heart of God is revealed and lived out in counselling. In the second half, we will focus on how the heart of God shapes our work with children and families. |

Counselling with All Your Heart, Your Soul, Your Mind, and Your Strength
[Date: 28 July 2010]
Rev Dr
Siang-Yang Tan
In these plenary addresses, counselling in a Christ-centered, Bible-based and Spirit-filled way will be described as the foundation of helping people with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Our relationship with God is central, and the ministry of the Holy Spirit is crucial in such Christian counselling, which can be expanded to include all helping and healing relationships with people, whether formal or informal, professional or lay. Ultimately, Godís deep healing is released through Godly living in Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit.
