Conference on Wholistic
Christian Counselling in Asia 2010
Greetings in the Name of
the Lord!
It is with deep gratitude and honour that we would like to have
the pleasure of inviting each of you (again) to be part of this
biannual conference.
For a number of you, this will be the FOURTH time you have attended
the conference. As in our previous partnership, we have benefited
greatly from your loving prayer support and participation. We
truly appreciate your support and pray that through this conference,
we will be a blessing to the Christian community both in Singapore
and around this region.
Background of WCCA
We believe that “Christian counselling is about being
a child of God and allowing the Holy Spirit to use us in the
extent of our capacity as healers to others.”
We need to re-capture the transforming power of grace, mercy
and love in our lives and harness this focal point on the power
of the work on the Cross. This Cross is an absolute completion
of God’s triumphant power over sin and its consequences.
It begins with an openness to seek God in our lives and ends
with a deeper and closer relationship that is akin to God’s
original plan and purpose for us.
God is creative and seeks His own out in many different ways.
Prayer, Bible study, worship and the practice of solitude are
forms of ‘therapy’ that can cause deep and permanent
transformation in our lives.
Conference on Wholistic Christian Counselling in Asia is meant
to capture the essence of a deeply spiritual approach. This
requires us to equip ourselves with technical skills but more
importantly, we need to draw close to God and experience a deep
sense of His presence in our lives. Such an authentic relationship
can only lead us to respond by reaching out to Him in our moments
of pain and despair.
"You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices
of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O
God, you will not despise." - Psalm 51:16,17
In WCCA 2004 ‘An Integrated Holistic Approach to Counselling’,
we strongly felt the need to integrate our counselling practice
with that of theology.
In WCCA 2006, ‘Spirituality: the Heart of Counselling’,
the essence of our message was to challenge God’s people
to deepen our walk with Christ. The reminder was for us to soak
ourselves in His Word and live a prayerful life in communion
with our God. It was a call for Christians to return to our
roots in God, both for daily living and ministry.
In WCCA 2008 ‘Experiencing God Through Counselling’,
we seek to challenge Christians towards a deeper relationship
with God. It emphasizes the need for us to return to our spiritual
roots in order for deep, authentic and holistic healing to take
place. It will be an integration of our broken and sinful selves
back to a loving and merciful God. Helping others to find authentic
healing is to help them experience an awesome and loving God
in their lives.
WCCA 2010 ‘Counselling With ALL Your Heart, Your Soul,
Your Mind and Your Strength: Having a Spirit-led, Christ-centered,
Biblically & Psychologically sound, Integrated Approach
to Christian Counselling’. This conference serves to remind
us that every facet of our being is needed to become a truly
effective Christian counsellor. God’s premise for us is
to TOTALLY surrender our lives to Him. To first be a devoted
disciple of Christ who enjoys an intimate relationship with
the Holy Spirit, practicing the presence of God in all things
is the essence of holistic counselling. The effect of a life
that reflects Christ in us is in itself a means through which
healing can take place. Good, competent, well researched training
and skills built upon theologically sound principles are the
secondary tools that sharpen our effectiveness as a Christian
counsellor.
Our Speakers and Presenters
Our keynote Plenary speakers are Dr Maureen Neihart, Bishop
Dr Robert Solomon and Rev Dr Siang-Yang Tan.
We have also increased the workshop tracks from WCCA 2008 at
SIX per day, with a total of 18 workshop tracks to that of EIGHT
per day with 24 workshop tracks to choose from in WCCA 2010.
With this increase, participants will have a wider choice of
special interest topics that they can choose from. The number
of speakers has also increased from 13 to 19.
It will be a conference with a difference and definitely not
one to disappoint. Do make a date with us and be an exciting
part of bringing Christian counselling in this region to a new
pinnacle of Christ-centred effectiveness.
To God be the Glory.
