Joanna Tan

Miss Joanna Tan
Psychotherapist and Artist

Joanna is a private practitioner operating ‘Heartspace’ – which sees individuals of all ages from children, youths, young adults up to retirees – who benefit from the process of creating art. In her art studio, she also conducts closed and open group sessions for a variety of client profile groups. Objectives for these support groups and workshops include exploring life direction, self-awareness and discovery, handling grief or trauma, depression and anxiety, addiction, sexual identity and various social and relationship issues. Yearly, she organises an art exhibition for participants of the open studio, as well as art and spirituality retreats on occasions during the year. She also works as a psychotherapist at Raffles Counselling Centre and was the clinical supervisor for the first batch of art therapy students at the LaSalle School of Arts. Currently, she conducts the art therapy course for their Professional Development Programme, and corporate and educational workshops for various institutions. She has experience working for Fremantle Hospital in the 'creative self expression unit' that caters to inpatient and outpatient adult consumers in the acute, recovery and rehabilitation phase of mental illness, and developed a broad range of therapeutic group interventions in collaboration with consumers, carers and staff. Joanna is also an award winning and practicing artist having had a couple of solo exhibitions in the past few years. Her on-going commitment to art enhances and strengthens her in her practice.
