Conference on Wholistic Christian Counselling in Asia 2008

In conjunction with the 10th Anniversary of Family Connexion, we are thrilled and grateful to be able to bring you this latest chapter in the tradition of WCCA – Experiencing God Through Counselling.

In WCCA 2004, “An Integrated Holistic Approach to Counselling”, we strongly felt the need to integrate our counselling practice with that of theology. In WCCA 2006, “Spirituality: the Heart of Counselling”, the essence of our message was to challenge God’s people to deepen our walk with Christ. The reminder was for us to soak ourselves in His Word and live a prayerful life in communion with our God. A call was made for Christians to return to our roots in God, both for daily living and ministry. In WCCA 2008, “Experiencing God Through Counselling”, we seek to challenge Christians towards a deeper relationship with God. It emphasizes the need for us to return to our spiritual roots in order for deep, authentic and holistic healing to take place. Helping others to find authentic healing is to help them experience an awesome and loving God in their lives.

This conference also promises to be an exhorting experience as we have Bishop Dr Robert Solomon beginning each day with Biblical reflections on our Christian Spirituality.

Our Plenary Speakers
Dr Gary Collins is no stranger to those in the Christian counselling fraternity. Dubbed as the “father of Christian counselling”, Dr Collins comes with over 50 years of experience with extensive publications and editorial work. He is currently the Distinguished Professor at both Psychological Studies Institute and Regent University.

Rev Dr Siang-Yang Tan is a true Asian at heart. The anointing in his public speaking ministry is well known to all. His gift to be able to integrate his clinical knowledge and skills with spiritual focus and outcomes has indeed been a great blessing to many.

Dr Wei-Jen Huang, a par excellence Marriage and Family Therapist, is also a gift to the conference. With his unassuming and gentle disposition, this humble man of God has been used greatly as a consultant to the cities of China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore. A special treat is in store where Dr Huang will be airing a DVD recording of a live TV programme, with a genuine marital problem. In this recording, Dr Huang demonstrates the skills of how the implicit use of Biblical principles may be interwoven with clinical skills to bring about healing in the counselling session.

Our Workshop Presenters
There are a total of 18 workshop choices spanning over the 3 days, with some 13 presenters in all. One new feature is the introduction of two special workshops per day that has the classification of a Master Class status. These Master Class workshops are targeted for participants who already have sound clinical training and extensive experience in the topics offered. These workshops will delve into the deeper issues, offering more discussions, interactions and case consultations.

This conference seeks to challenge Christian practitioners towards helping our clients to achieve the greater goal of a deeper relationship with God. It emphasizes the need for us to return to our basic tenet of our existence, and our need to experience authentic and holistic healing by way of bringing our broken and sinful selves back to a loving and merciful God.

To God Be the Glory!
